I Started Using Masking Tape In My Art, The Results Surprised Me!

On a whim one day I masked off areas of a canvass. The idea was to create white space between a series of abstract images that would only be united by the colours used. While the effect is not as perfect as if I had used a painted on resist I really like the effect it produces.
Also there is something very exciting about peeling the paint covered tape away to reveal a second picture beneath.
Let me know what you think, I will continue to practice this and let you all know how it goes.

Painting starts with masked off areas and a bit of 'magic white' painted on to aid blending.

I work quickly and messily wet on wet to produce a series of small pictures on the canvass.

When the picture is fairly dry I remove the tape to show the white space between the images, some bleeding happens due to my over zealous painting style.

I use heavy impasto in places and sgraffito in others to achieve a depth of image with lots of texture.

Each part of the image is totally different but linked by the colour palette used.

A little more reserved with the colours (green, blue, yellow and some magic white).

With the tape removed - smaller gauge tape to bring the images closer together - one painting with many images.
