I Started Making Flowers Out Of Felt Because My Pets Always Eat And/Or Destroy Real Ones

I came across a felt flower bouquet on the 'net one day and I was hooked. It was so gorgeous and I had never seen anything like it. I decided right then and there that I would start making my own felt flowers. I loved having flowers in my home but, as my title states, my kitties and pups don't really make that possible. I am also afraid of pet poisoning, and as a vet tech by trade, I've seen many animals hospitalized from plant toxicity. I have always been sort of lukewarm on polyester/silk mass produced fake flowers, as I think they can look kind of blah. Felt flowers are bright, colorful, and even have a slightly plush feel. My pets have knocked them over and even carried them away and they've been placed right back in their spot good as new. (even washed sometimes!) I give my pieces to people as gifts and sell some here and there. I would love to work with brides as felt flower bouquets make a beautiful keepsake as well as gifts for the wedding party.
Of course, my interests expanded into other plants and flowers. Some of my favorites pieces are the poisonous plants- Hemlock, Foxglove, Wolfsbane, Bella Donna- because they are such beautiful plants but are not common as home decor, for obvious reasons. I've never actually seen a silk blend poisonous plant come to think of it. I construct the plant from felt, wire, and wooden dowels and put the appropriate apothecary label on the front of the vase. It looks so cool. Great for someone looking for a slight touch of the macabre for their home.
I also create a dandelion piece that comes with a sign that says "Dandelions are good for honeybees". I would love work with a honeybee conservation group and donate a portion of sales from this piece.
I have had people tell me that they love the felt flowers because they feel so sad having live ones. Think about having real cut flowers in your home. You sever them off at the stem just before they're about to bloom their most beautiful. Then you put their lifeless bodies in a vase for them to inevitably wilt and die before your eyes. I personally don't see cut flowers as this macabre but some people just cant get the idea out of their heads. Felt flowers definitely solves this problem!
