After someone close to me went through an emotionally abusive relationship I saw how little people talk about that side of abuse. But the truth is that the psychological damage will outlive even the last faded bruise.
While I was thinking about the interplay between love and pain I came up with the kissing motif in the film, and felt compelled to make it. The story was lead by a piece of research I found which said that it takes up to 9 abuses before a victim does anything concrete about it.
I wrote a treatment and took it to Somesuch, a production company in London. With their support, and the help of many amazing people, including domestic abuse survivors, we made the film.
We decided to donate it to a charity called White Ribbon, and thanks to them we even got the film played in Parliament.
