#1 Tomato Painter

Looking back on this project with 2023 eyes, these photographs continue to bring me joy. It was such a crazy time in everyone’s lives and I am so thankful that I was able to create something this beautiful at home. This project will always be a special time capsule of my family on the farm and creating art with my young daughter.

Documenting our little farm for a decade, it was a fun challenge to see our surroundings and the food we grown in a new way. I think we all kind of had to turn our lens towards ourselves or closer to home during that time and, for a lot of us, our creativity found different outlets. I had never worked with miniatures before and really went deep into the world of model trains. For this project, I typically worked with HO Scale models (1:87) and they are pretty small. For some reason, the HO Scale works the best with making vegetables look giant. I never used Photoshop to create the images, so balancing the little figures in tight spaces (like laying on the ground in the greenhouse rows) was definitely one of the biggest challenges.
