Horse racing has a long tradition for the Gayo people in Central Aceh-Sumatra. Traditionally small boys are the jockeys who ride without a saddle at dangerous speeds in a circular runway. The all-day event takes place in a village once a year which attracts visitors from all over the region. It was a truly memorable experience to follow the event and see the jockeys compete for victory.
