I See The Universe In My Food

I'm working on a series of mandala illustrations focusing on my favorite comfort food meals. I wanted to show food in a new way, to give it the air of authority it can have when it is facilitating our cultural rituals. All the meals are surrounded by their essential components, just like we are the sum of our essential relationships. I drew these using pen and pencil on bristol board paper, and then colored them in Photoshop. Each drawing takes a day or so to complete, but the concept phase takes a bit longer. I'm always thinking of new foods and meals that would look good in this arrangement.
