I'm a new hyperrealism artist.
These are 2 of my latest hyperrealism art pieces. Each piece can take me almost 100 hours to complete and have more than a 100,000 strokes!
The Lion of Judah is one of my favourite drawings. I was inspired to draw it after reading the bible verse Revelations 5:5“But one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals.”
Jesus is referred to as the Lion of Judah in the bible. I wanted to recreate a picture that embodied the dignity and authority deserving of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
The biggest difficulty was the hair of the lion. Each strand had to be drawn accurately and yet naturally. But I have to say, the result is worth it 😊
The Overcomer is a re-creation from one of the photos I took on my travels to Japan. The majesty and splendour of the eagle spreading its wings and swooping in on its prey left me in awe. It reminded me of one of my favourite verses in the bible. 1 John 4:4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
Hailing from the little red dot of Singapore, it wasn't easy getting into art. I grew up in rural Singapore in the 1970's and most of the time we struggled to make ends meet. I wasn't very good with books so I struggled at school and mixed with the wrong company in my early teens.
But my grandma saw the best in me and she even sponsored my education in an arts school in Singapore - Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. After graduating into a career of graphic design, I started a creative and design agency with my beautiful wife.
However, the transformation in my life happened in 2005 when Yeshua found me. I started attending church and found new meaning and purpose not just in my life but in my art and the work of my hands. Eventually, the Lord directed me to start working in Church and was a Creative Director in church for 10 years.
Recently, I decided to step back into the art scene and the Lord challenged me about patience that I started picking up Hyperrealism Art. He taught me to create a beautiful masterpiece stroke by stroke and showed me the fruits of patience.
Today, I am inspired by the bible and the the love of Yeshua in my artpieces. I hope to remind anyone who may see my art of love, hope and the grace of God.
