My name is Paige, and I'm the artist behind Affinity Floral Arts. I use flowers, resin, and metalsmithing techniques to create the effect of nature frozen in time. Every piece is designed to make you look closer and appreciate the tiny details of the natural world that you might normally overlook!
My work began when I stumbled upon an image collection of prehistoric ferns and animals trapped in amber. I found it miraculous that a living organism, which would normally degrade in time, could be preserved for millions and millions of years in its original form. This inspired me to pursue this same concept using epoxy resin. Just like liquid tree sap flows and hardens into amber, epoxy resin can be used to coat a flower and preserve it for years to come. I spent several years teaching myself to use resin, as well as studying metal fabrication to create the frames.
Each piece you see has gone through a long, careful process that starts with growing the flowers and leaves in my own garden. I pick them and dry them completely, sometimes by pressing in a book and sometimes by desiccating them in 3D form. Then I build the frame out of metal and fill it with meticulous layers of resin, trapping the flowers and leaves inside. The flowers are preserved in the height of their beauty in the form of delicate jewelry.
