The Ogoh-ogoh parade is a celebration held every year during the month of March in Bali, Indonesia. This annual event is held before Nyepi... Nyepi is a Hindu celebration which only takes place on the island of Bali. It is a day of silence where everybody on the island from 6am until 6am the following morning must remain indoors. All are restricted from the use of any sort of electricity, fire and technology, and are not aloud to work, travel, talk or eat. Even the airports shut down for these hours of silence. This day is reserved for self reflection and that only.
The Ogoh-ogoh are massive statues built to represent mythological beings... mostly demons. The purpose of these creations are for the purification of the environment of any spiritual pollutants emitted from the activities of living beings.
