In Hinduism, Upanayana (Sacred Thread ceremony) is performed by the Brahmin community in various parts of India, on boys of at least 7 years of age.
This ceremony is symbolic of the right of passage. Traditionally this ceremony marked the start of the child's formal education. However in today's date this is a ceremony which just is part the tradition followed since ages.
