I have always been fascinated by the human body. Some of you may know the feeling which you get growing in the household where the naked body is never discussed or shown. Needless to say, I was always a rebellious girl, from my looks to my need to explore everything. However, only after I moved to London I was finally able to get out of my shell. Living in London made a huge impact on my perception of nudity and inspired me to explore its raw beauty.
I decided to invite strangers I meet on Facebook and Tinder to my bedroom, where I ask them to undress in front of me. From that point onwards they become the tools I use to create sculptures. Wanting to heighten the intensity of this intimate encounter, I occasionally join the subject in the photograph. This allows me to experience the project from within.
This project became very intimate to me because I was shooting on medium format film which requires to stand still for a longer period of time. Also, film has limited shots and I loved to take time to make pose decisions and get right exposure. Because of the process, I had to spend more time with my unknown subjects and get to know them. In the beginning of this idea, I was always nervous meeting somebody and I was not sure where should I go while somebody is undressing. I always kept talking about everything from weather to personal stuff until we both felt great together. It was incredible to see how vulnerable, sensitive and ashamed somebody can be of their body and later they just do not care anymore and even relish in it.
And I know, you are probably wondering if I ever had sex with anyone. I always kept it professional, which allowed me to make life time friends!
What is more, for my own surprise while studying I specialised, and still do, in portraiture, fashion and advertising. However, this Fine Art/Portraiture project was a real inspiration and enjoyment to me. I hope that it will show you how beautiful and spectacular each human's body is. With all our little flaws, we are all still perfect.
