I Paint Colorful Marine Animals With A Twist To Show The Extent Of Plastic Pollution In Our Oceans

I come from the Philippines, a country surrounded by beautiful waters and recognized as the world’s center of marine biodiversity. Unfortunately, it is also the world’s third biggest contributor to ocean plastic pollution. Single-use plastics are used everywhere by everyone. Proper garbage disposal is an enormous problem, and garbage from the large cities find their way into major rivers, and eventually into the sea. A lot of Filipinos do not grasp the enormity of this problem.
I paint different sea creatures and other animals affected by marine pollution. I use recycled office paper and discarded watercolor paints for my work. The animals are prominently featured with ocean debris. I put objects familiar to Filipinos in order to drive my point. Anyone and everyone can be responsible. The items, no matter how small or innocuous, contribute to marine pollution.
