I Make Ukiyo-E (The Floating World) Japanese Woodblock Inspired Digital Prints

I started studying art at university this year. At first I wasn’t that interested in learning about “old art.” It wasn’t until I had a lecture on Japanese art called Ukiyo-e which stands for The Floating World. This type of art was popular art during the edo period in Japan. You could buy a woodblock print for about the price of noodles back in the day.

I fell in love with one artist Katsushika Hokusai who is famous for The Great Wave off Kanagawa (it’s even an emoji 🌊) from the 36 views of Mount Fuji. Some Ukiyo-e art also include erotica, ghost stories, genshi, courtesan and samurai. Mostly it consists of every day life in Japan.

Because I loved the art so much I decided to make own Ukiyo-e inspired digital prints. Please enjoy them.
