I Make Masks Based On First Impressions I Have Of People (9 Pics)

It all started with a project called "Andronymph", made to celebrate the human expression of the body and identity. Through the masks, people are more inclined to be photographed freely. I thought it would be interesting to do portraits of people who were a bit camera shy, as I am.
I decided to start doing masks based on the first impression I had of these strangers, I'd met specifically for this project. I would meet them once, and then the second time I had done the mask and it was ready to be worn and photographed.
These masks are the crossing point of what these people emitted that day, and my personal symbols and stereotypes. I thought it would be interesting to try to capture that first impression as an object that's neither positive or negative, just inspirational. The masks can be seen as deified versions of the models. Each mask was to only be worn by the model it was inspired from.
After the Andronymph project, I started doing masks more linked to concepts and not just individuals. Check out my website or Instagram if you're curious!
All the masks were made with material found in trash in my city (Athens), and sustainable techniques (such as making my own glue, not washing paint with chemicals, etc). This goes along with my personal ethics, as I believe the masks are also a way to reconnect ourselves to Nature.
