For the last couple of years, Brazilian-born, New York-based artist Gustavo Sousa have been taking pictures of people on their phones and drawing minimalist versions of these images.
Everything is stripped down, just the glow from the screen and an indication of their silhouettes are left.
When put together as 3-second loops, the line drawings and the repetition give a weird feeling of a moment suspended in time. Although impersonal, there's a sense of intimacy in each image. Everyone seems hypnotized.
"When I started, I used to walk around looking for people lost in their own worlds looking at their screens. But recently it seems actually more difficult to find people who are NOT looking into their phones than the ones who are" says Gustavo.
