Dialectical materialism is one of the most foundational and unique elements of Marxism. In this video, we discuss three of the most important concepts: change, contradiction, and the interconnectedness of reality.
Because it is a theory of change, and especially social change, dialectics has revolutionary implications, and the exploration or theorizing about other possible worlds is integral to the methodology. By using the concepts of flow, motion, and contradiction, we can identify areas of structural vulnerability where systems are liable to disruption and change, and can see how the social relations that define fundamental aspects of our economy are constructs that can be torn down and replaced with new ones that better serve our interests.
