I fell in love with music and films when I was eight years old. The combination of music and the visual medium and what they could do together always fascinated me.
Later on in life, I got interested in yoga/meditation and moving into different states of mind where one could access the subconscious and open up channels of creativity within oneself. First, I decided to create music that was unique, with no constraints of genre and no limits as to how I could use my voice in it. Using the chants that we often used in meditation but altering them so that they were much more fluid and musical, I made this track 'The Ship of Desires' in which I got a fabulous guitarist, Tony Das, to play an extended solo (rarely heard these days) over the music. He was absolutely burning and when it all came together I decided to make a music video that would further bring out the mystery and fleeting nature of reality. I wanted to make something very evocative and flowing, as if one was travelling to different places and time zones, shifting between the real world and the dream world, as we often do. With the help of Vladimir Lozinski, who is a fantastic editor, we created this piece of art: a music video that doesn't depend on quick cuts and flashy special effects to convey meaning. Instead, the idea was to slowly bring in the viewer into another time-space and allow him/her to linger explore another world that is often dormant inside us all.
