Hú, Mahjong cards
I set out with a goal to create a portable mahjong set that looks good and feels good with the intention of making this product for people who would love to play mahjong anywhere they went.
Why? Because I enjoy playing mahjong and it's not very accessible to play anywhere especially with the size of the tiles and table set up required. Some alternative solutions online include a mini mahjong set that seems cheap and hard to handle and cheap mahjong poker cards with no thought behind it.
Traditional mahjong is bulky, heavy and noisy. Thus what I was looking for from my solution is something small, light and quiet.
Without the intention of replacing your traditional mahjong but rather to make it more accessible to bring around, play anywhere and not disturb anyone with loud noises. With that, I decided to create a small portable mahjong set that looks good and feels good with a touch of modernization.
After testing and prototyping the cards ended up being 60 x 30 which I felt was just the right size. While playing, the cards will be placed on a mahjong card stand that will hold 13 cards while you draw and discard one card every turn to prevent overdrawing of cards.
With a small profile, the mahjong set includes 148 mahjong cards, 4 sets of card stand, 1 NSEW tracker, 3 dice. Play mahjong anywhere.
