I worked in corporate for four years after graduating from university and felt like I was starting to lose my vitality and love for life, so I quite the job to pursue a life filled with all the things I love, including psychology, antiques, and art. I started further studies in psychology and took up weekly painting classes, painting objects that are meaningful to me.
I love painting objects and things that have meaningful associations. We are creatures that associate meanings and stories to the things around us. We often associate meanings to things that does not add real value and happiness to our lives (power, status, money), and sometimes these meaningless associations actually strip away our abilities to enjoy life.
I'd like to share paintings of some of the things that are meaningful to me and enriches my life.
One of my passions in life is sailing and since I was a little girl, I have always loved boat shoes. My father worked on a boat for a big chunk of his life when he was in China. It must be the genes.
This antique coffee grinder belongs to my boyfriend's grandmother, which he brought to Australia as a momento. Two of his most beloved things in life are coffee and books, so thought it was appropriate to paint this for him.
This painting was done using a photograph that my boyfriend took (he is passionate about photography) - I loved the softness of the photo and tried to capture the feel using paint.
This painting is of a tea cup and saucer set I found at an antique shop. One of my favourite things in life is drinking tea - for me, it has strong associations with relaxation, long conversations, good company, and reading.
This vase belonged to my boyfriend's parents and his mum gave it to us when we left Serbia after visiting them. Seeing it reminds me of them.
Ever since I started jewellery making two months ago, I have been attracted to silver. In the past I have always loved gold more, however now I feel differently. When I saw this silver dessert cup in the storage room, I felt drawn to paint it.
