One of the main reasons I moved to Charlottesville, Virginia in the spring of 2016 was the city's proximity to Shenandoah National Park.
Protecting a long and narrow section of the Blue Ridge Mountains, this beautiful park lies less than thirty minutes by car from my front door. I regularly take advantage of this by going on drives and hikes in the park.
One of Shenandoah National Park's main features is Skyline Drive, a 105-mile scenic road that twists and winds its way along the crest of the Blue Ridge. No fewer than 75 overlooks line that road, the only road through the park, offering spectacular views of the mountains and the Shenandoah Valley.
Shenandoah National Park is also home to about 500 miles of hiking trails, including a section of the iconic Appalachian trail. Those trails lead hikers to wooded hollows, boulder-strewn summits and photogenic waterfalls.
I've been to Shenandoah National Park more than a dozen times, always bringing my camera along to take photos. In this post, I've compiled my twenty favorite photos of Shenandoah National Park.
