I worked for the USPS for 12 years. We would get paid every two weeks. Twice a year we would receive 3 paychecks in a month. I would take one of those checks and go to the meat market ( it used to be a thing)
I could get a quarter cow, and other items packaged in the amounts I required for a meal. Ex: 5 pork chops for my 4 kids plus myself.
Everything would go in a large freezer in my garage. My children would read the writing on the white paper packaging and help themselves to the steaks. I asked the butcher to wrap the t bones, porterhouse and rib eyes in the same paper but please write liver on the package. I do like liver so my children never questioned it. I got my faves and didn't feel guilty in the least.
