I started SORA (Supporters of Rainbow Adolescents) because I want to provide a space that allows LGBTI teenagers to socialise and connect in a healthy and safe way. Because as it is now, straight teenagers have a plethora of groups (often church based) where they can socialise and grow up naturally without hindrance.
LGBTI teenagers however are forced to either withdraw completely or search out online adult online activities, which neither of which are healthy or safe. LGBTI teenagers are also discrimated against, beaten up and even tossed out of their homes just because of who they are. I am trying to change that with SORA.
It consists of two parts. The first is the social networking and support of Rainbow Youth through the website. The website contains our idols, a support section, forums and a chat room and support pages of helpful information for teenage LGBTI people. When there are enough people in a area we will organise a weekly meeting for that town and monthly events for the surrounding area.
The second part is where I personally interview LGBTI people in the community to show Rainbow people that we are a normal part of society just like red heads, left handed people and races of all colours.
