I Was Able To Find My Superpower Within My Learning Disability! You Can Too :)

Hi I'm Jordan Lipstock,
The creator of Shame On You Apparel, and I have ADD and Dyslexia. Growing up, I was always put in classes that were for people with extreme learning disabilities and autism. This ended up being a major setback for my intellectual self-confidence, because I always felt that I didn’t belong there. You see, people believed that they knew how I was supposed to act and learn, but I wasn’t fitting into their perfect little box. What they, and the educational system failed to see, is that I have a gift, a superpower as I’ve come to know it. It took time to critically look at my strengths and weaknesses in order to unleash my abilities and real true potential. This mindset has given me the ability to become more self-aware and be a more creative thinker. Even to this day, I am still discovering all the gifts my crazy little mind has to offer. It’s a never ending journey! Because my mind works differently, I have faced criticism and teasing my entire life; this has actually BUILT my self-confidence and self-worth. I took lots of time to look critically at my own mind and you know what I found? There were legit reasons to make jokes about me – I do some weird shit, and make basic mistakes! My journey has taught me to laugh at these situations and learn from them to help myself grow and discover new parts of myself.
There are people out there, and most educational systems that like to think they know how we’re supposed to act, and even think for that matter. They’ll try to put us in a box, and force us to respond in a specific way that makes them feel comfortable. We are not robots! It’s up to us to create our own system, to free ourselves from the walls they put around us. We need to recognize that our disabilities are actually superpowers that enable us to have a different perspective, a different self-awareness and a different skill set. We have gifts that let us be imaginative, and see things in a different light. We need to first embrace this difference, recognizing that we do in fact have funny little quirks, different learning habits and coping mechanisms that may seem strange to a lot of people! No more wining, no more complaining. We need to laugh at ourselves, stop playing victim, and that is when we will grow. Get a handle on your superpowers by looking at them with a light heart while honestly looking at your weaknesses, don’t take yourself too seriously and that is when you’ll find you’ve won! Shame on me? Nope. Not anymore.
So come and join this movement to reach your superpower and take ownership of who you are!
One of my superpowers is being an artist. I'm a visual effects environment artist where I've worked on AAA games and movies such as the new Jungle Book Movie. I hope my little story helps someone out there! What's your superpower? :)
