Origami is well known for its figurative side, but my passion is repetitive, geometric patterns, folded from a single sheet of paper. It is called origami tessellations, and it is made in three stages: fold a grid; ad the pre creases; collapse.
My story with origami started at age 11, 45 years ago. For many years I followed instructions to fold creations of other people, just like a pianist who play from a score by Beethoven. I made my first original creation 12 years ago accidentally, trying to refold a model I learned, but made a mistake and got a completely new one instead. Since then I realized I can make many more mistakes, and some of them are presented here!
A tessellation is built from molecules, and the number of molecules decides the amount of time one needs to make one. I usually make 5 by 5 projects, which means only 25 molecules, but in some cases, I forget reason and try more, up to hundreds of them on a single sheet. A simple tessellation can take two to three hours, and a 10 by 10 project can take weeks to accomplish.
Today I am a full time (origami) artist, and my work is proudly hanged in many homes.
