If you are an artist you know what I mean when I say that as artists we hate 95% of our work because we are so critical of it. We have an idea in our heads and if we can't get it out exactly how we envision it we become frustrated.
This is exactly what happened in my very first art class.
My mom gave us an assignment (my brothers, sister and me), we needed to draw a boat. There was a a reference picture and everything for us to follow but I wanted mine to be better, and I had a picture in my head of what I wanted and just couldn't get it out no mater how hard I tried!
Long story short, the art class ended with me in an uncontrollable state of sobs and tears and my mom yelling "OK! WE'RE NEVER DOING ART CLASS AGAIN!!!"! And we didn't, and my brothers and sister hated me for it, and for good reason.
I never lost the crazed desire to create and build things but I learned to keep the uncontrollable bursts of anger inside when I couldn't get it just right, mostly! ;)
My mom did continue to encourage my art though in the many forms that it took, be it drawing, music, photography, cinematography, CGI and woodworking and I owe a lot of that to her.
So to thank her for putting up with my insane urges and outbursts of frustration, we did a photo shoot, and I remained completely calm through the entire session.
Thanks mom!
