The Isle of Man has today, on 1 April 2016, released plans to erect a dome over the Island, protecting the stunning natural environment for all to enjoy.
Located in the middle of the Irish sea and measuring just 32 miles long and 14 miles wide, the Isle of Man has a diverse landscape – which includes craggy coastlines to the south, open expanses of flat plains in the north, and ranges of hills, that come to a peak with the Island’s only mountain, Snaefell, in the centre – providing the perfect getaway for those looking to explore the natural outdoors.
To ensure that the Island can continue to provide an outdoor sanctuary for city slickers across the British Isles, and beyond, the Isle of Man dome will encase the Island in a protective barrier to ensure that it can continue to be a special place for people and nature to co-exist.
Early plans for the pioneering design have been unveiled today by Isle of Man Tourism. They show how the Island will take inspiration from structures such as the Eden Project to provide a controlled environment, with key access points around transport hubs.
A firm favourite with city dwellers looking for a short break away, the Island is just an hour’s flight from London City airport – meaning that those needing a rural break, or searching for an outdoor adventure trip, need look no further. And with the added dome, they can retreat to the Island year-round.
Mrs F. Akedome, Isle of Man Tourism said:
“Our Island offers the wide variety of landscapes and activities of the British Isles but in a miniature form – making it the perfect getaway for those who like to explore the great outdoors. Our small size is ideal for allowing people to take in the variety that nature has to offer in a short space of time, and by erecting a dome over the Island we believe that we’ll make the Island even more popular with Britons looking for a short break.”
Return flights with easyjet from London Gatwick to the Isle of Man start from £71.
