Everyone tells you what to expect when your little one is born. I don't recall ever being warned about postpartum depression. I didn't even know I had it for weeks. So many symptoms that I didn't recognize as PPD. I simply thought I was going crazy.
I did eventually realize what was happening to me. And I did eventually get help. But had I been more familiar with the symptoms; had I understood that many moms experience PPD, I would have sought help sooner.
According to the American Psychological Association, between 9-16% of women in the US experience postpartum depression following pregnancy. And after experiencing it myself along with guilt and shame over my emotions, I realized how important it is that moms with PPD don't feel alone. I created this series of images to share my experience with PPD and hopefully reach others whose lives are being touched by the illness.
