Long ago, during the 90's there was a huge craze for these cute and snuggly babies! I never had the chance to buy any growing up. We lived in a small farming town and if we had money, it went to necessities. That's just the way things went.
Well as luck would have it, I was going to get that chance after all! This year I found an estate sale here in Minnesota. They were selling 40 banker boxes of Beanie Babies! They didn't post any additional information. What drew my attention however, was they way they had been sealed and preserved. I have OCD and it requires me to store things a certain way, in order feel they are safe. Those boxes looked as though I had personally wrapped and sealed them myself. And I knew at that very moment.. Whatever was in them. Was treasured.
I waited for the last day of the sale, when they would drop everything to 50% off. Then purchased all of the remaining 37 containers for $480.00!! And that began the most awesome adventure I've ever been on!! I've spent the last 4 months cataloging, sorting, and counting! It's been an absolute blast!
So for $480.00 I purchased all 37 Sealed - Mystery Containers - Which were 36 Boxes and 1 Storage tote. They contained:
1,129 Beanie Babies
1,207 McDonald's Teenie Beanie Babies
69 Magazines
16 Collector Guides
57 Happy Meal Bags from 1998 and 1999
4 Sets of McDonald's Teenie Lapel Pins
2 Promotional Teenie T-Shirts
1 McDonald's Teenie Hat
2 TY Platinum Kits
2 TY Clubby Kits
And much, much more!
The original collector took such care and consideration in the way she stored them. She also found and saved some incredible and historic items! Apparently back in the 90's many sporting events and even theater's would give away Beanie Babies at their venue's. I have found Beanies from Chicago Cubs games as well as from the Musical "Ragtime" with the tickets from the show!
I have added to the collection over the months, adding other TY lines, Collector Cards, Display Cases, ect. I've even found some custom made pieces, and made some custom pieces! But most of all, I fulfilled a childhood dream!
