Although Malaysia and Singapore are quite close to each other, travelling between the two countries requires an extra planning. After all, we are talking about exploring two different nations with their own regulations and policies. Some travellers may prefer going on a tour but managing your own trip can actually be cheaper – and fun too! Here are some of the things that you should do to make the trip easier and more enjoyable.
• Travelling by Bus
The bus is one of the most popular means of transportation, especially between the two countries. Since the road conditions are quite good, travelling by bus can be quite comfortable and safe. There are many service operators for this option so you have the freedom to choose any service that you want, depending on the cost and service coverage. You can find the most expensive service (with luxurious features) to the cheapest one. Even the cheapest service won’t compromise the quality of the service itself. Buying the ticket is pretty easy because of the advanced online system.
Basically, you can use three buses for the cross-border travel. They are the red plate SBS Transit, Causeway Link CW2, and Singapore-Johore Express. From Kuala Lumpur, you can go to Johor Bahru where Larkin Terminal is located via express coach. Then you can go to Singapore and reach Queen Street Bus (or Ban San Bus) terminal. Mind you, though, that you will be off the bus twice for passport checking. One will be the Malaysian Immigration checkpoint and the other one is Singapore Woodlands checkpoint.
Such a travel can be comfortable because of the modern and sophisticated service. You can even enjoy WiFi connection in the buses, and everything can be enjoyed with such an inexpensive rate. You can also meet other fellow travellers or the native people. Not to mention that there are tons of bus schedules and options. However, the trip can be quite long – 6 hours in general.
• Travelling by Train
This option is quite popular and likeable although you won’t find any direct line between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. You will have to make several connections, especially in Johor Bahru and Gemas. Although this option is inexpensive, a lot of travellers view it as impractical. Not to mention that the actual trip will be longer because of the connections. However, if you really want to try something different or you are into trains so much, this can be the alternative cool option.
In most cases, you will have to take KTM from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bahru, and then you can take the shuttle service from there to Singapore. Managing online reservation is also possible. This will be the best option if you are going to spend some time in Johor Bahru.
• Travelling by Plane
It is always possible to use the plane to travel in between Malaysia and Singapore. It is definitely fast because it only takes an hour for the entire trip. There are different flights to choose from, such as Firefly, Jet Asia, Silkair, Malindo Air, Scoot, and Air Asia. These flights are operating from two international airports in Kuala Lumpur: Sultan Abdul Azziz Shah Kuala Lumpur and Kuala Lumpur International airport.
Travelling by plane is the quickest way to travel, for sure. And the fact that there are different flight services is the extra perk. However, you will miss the scenic beauty of the two countries. Not to mention that the rate is quite expensive – definitely more expensive than the other types of transportation.
