From day to day cross stitching involves more ladies, girls and men. This article is for those cross stutch beginners who are recently followed the cross stitch addict world.
I know as a beginner you have too many questions before start your first stitching design.
First let me say few words about my crossstitch experience and why I love coss stitch. I felt in love when I was 10 and since that needles, fabrics and floss regularly flood my apartment. I love to sit in the evening with a cup of herbal tea and make stitches. It calms down perfectly, ideal time for relax and dreaming. That’s why cross stitching is a great art therapy. I have more 20 finished big works, most are handmade mothers day and birthday gifts.
How to do cross stitching?
To start your project, first choose x stitch pattern, that arouse great desire to stitch. Print a chart, buy threads according to cross stitch legend, fabric and needles.
You may start two ways: from the cetre or from the left side.
If you choose to start from the centre you just need to mark it on the fabric. To start from the left side, leave some space about 2-3 inches for framing.
How to do cross stitch in order to have perfect finish?
1. The directions of stitches should always be in one and same side.
2. Use one and same quantity of threads. Decrease and increase if it’s mentioned in a pattern.
3. Pay attention at tense of the floss, you shouldn’t spin out too heavy as your picture won’t be smooth.
Threads. If you think how many threads should you use for cross stitch it depends what fabric do you use. At my patterns I give an instructions about floss for cross stitch, back stitch, halfstich.
The average quantity of threads are 2-3. Please remind the larger counts of fabric the more threads is better to use. Your stitches should be thick to each other. Otherwise you can see white wholes and picture won’t be awesome.
Fabric. Another question is which cross stitch fabric to use. I think Aida 14 is the best. When you become advanced stitcher you can use linen, cotton, jeans.
Needles. Needles for cross stitching differs from ordinary. Usually tapestry needles for cross stitch are sizes 24 and 26, also there needles in sizes 20, 22, 24, 26 and 28. The comfortable needle you use depends on the fabric you are stitching on. In general, the smaller the holes in the fabric (that is, the higher the fabric count), the smaller the needle.
When your work is completed you have a task what to do with cross stitch when finished.
Please have a look at back side and remove threads that can be left.
Then you should wash cross stitching before framing. Use only warm water with washing gel and handwash. After that let it get dry and iron it from back when it’s absolutely dry.
Also I see a lot of questions where to buy cross stitch patterns. You can visit our etsy shop https://www.etsy.com/shop/SilkStitchesPattern to find cute cross stitch designs. All of them are downloadable cross stitch patterns, so it doesn’t matter where you live. USA, Canada, Dubai or any other country you buy cross stitch patterns and there’s no need to search for local store.
