This map shows the famous artwork for every country in Europe. Some are quite obvious, such as the Mona Lisa by Da Vinci who is an Italian, others may not be as well-known in smaller countries.

Most of the artworks are paintings. However if there is an overwhelmingly famous sculpture in a country, it will be the chosen artwork for that nation. For example, the Mermaid statue is the chosen artwork for Denmark.

The criteria for selecting artworks varied for each countries. Most of the time, my decision is based on the internet, mostly Wikipedia. Other than that, I also looked for reference from Quora and Yahoo Answer.

Sometime, deciding on artwork can be challenging when there are so many to pick from. For example, with France, I had to spent a lot of time researching about different eras and art movements beside famous artists, which led to me to pick the Sunrise by Monet as the most iconic artwork for France because it marked the birth of Impressionism.
