A lot of these memes focus on the recoveries neglected animal went through after finding their forever homes. Which is great. Caring for a companion animal goes far beyond providing food, water, and shelter. So seeing people putting in the effort to make the critters enjoy life is really awesome.
"Helping vulnerable animals and keeping pets in safe and loving homes requires a commitment from all of us—advocates, pet owners, shelters, leaders, and entire communities. When we work together under a common cause, we’re both saving lives and elevating our society and its laws to ensure cruelty victims and other at-risk animals receive the protection and care they deserve," Matthew Bershadker, ASPCA President & CEO, wrote.
Around 6.5 million companion animals enter U.S. animal shelters every year (of those, approximately 3.3 million are dogs and 3.2 million are cats). However, the good news is that experts estimate that this number has steadily declined from annually has declined from approximately 7.2 million in 2011.
