How I Shot A Wave Dress

Hello, my name is Houa Vang, and I am a destination photographer.
I would like to share how I got this "Wave Dress" image. The main equipment I used to create this image is a flash capable of high-speed sync like the Profoto B1 and a wide angle lens for that dramatic perspective distortion like the sigma 14-24mm.
It was windy that day so I had one of my friend help hold the light in place so that it doesn't wash away with the waves. I waited until the waves had retreated and quickly with the help of my friend Mai, laid out her dress on the sand and hurried back to my position. It is important to keep an eye on the waves because you don't want to damage your gears because sand is a photographer's worse nightmare! I suggest if you want to try these kind of beach photos to get a proper cover for your camera to avoid damage, unlike me. I set my camera to shoot multiple frames, moved in as close as I could and shot at 14mm to get that dramatic perspective distortion. When the waves came crashing in I pressed the shutter, kept my eyes on the waves and stood up as fast as I could to when the water had passed the model Xeng's dress. We repeated this about six more times until we got the perfect money shot!
