I started with the raw sheet of StichAScale. This sheet is then painted on both sides before you cut it. This helps as painting the individual scales isn't easy. Then I cut them from the frame and applied temporary basting adhesive. This allowed me to stick down all the scales in a row before moving the the sewing machine. Lower the feed dogs on your machine just like you would for free motion quilting. Each scale is sewn on using a zigzag stitch on the longest setting. It's just like a button! I left space on the back edge and sides for a hem to cover up the stitches on the final line of scales. I then hand stitched it closed and applied a few scales to cover up the bottom seam. I also added a small chain with a jump ring to the edge so it could hold up the front edge. The end result is really flexible and lightweight. It looks great and has a lot of options for customization.
