Bored Panda reached out to Redditor Milo Molly, who worked as a housekeeper. She shared her story of working for a male client who had a wife and a mistress in this Ask Reddit thread. “He would bring each at different times to his vacation apartment that I serviced. It was sad because when he was with his wife, he was really sweet and sensitive and they would just have a relaxing time if I did happen to see him. They would also clean up after themselves a little so the job was a bit easier while they stayed.”
“When he would bring his girlfriend he was much ruder to me in front of her (I think trying to be suave and look powerful) and they would both trash the place, she would always leave her underwear, dirty dishes, bottles and cigarettes everywhere. I felt sad for the wife because she clearly didn’t know about her husband’s mistress but it was such a well-paying job and I needed the money so I never said anything,” Milo wrote in her post.
“Working as a housekeeper was not glamorous but it was relatively mindless work I could do while listening to music, so quite a therapeutic job,” she told us in the interview.

“Pay is only good if you get a regular gig with a wealthier client, but you can work your way up to that. I started small then worked my way up to more high-end clients through word of mouth.”
When it comes to housekeeping for the client in the story, Milo said that “the main challenge was the amount of unhygienic things that would be left around when his mistress/girlfriend would stay; used condoms, dirty underwear, cigarettes, spilled wine, smashed bottles, etc. It was very off-putting.”
It turns out, “it was a hard secret to keep,” the former housekeeper said and added “As a woman, I felt obligated by sisterhood to tell the wife what was going on but at the time I really needed the money so I never said anything. I regret not saying anything now.”

Milo said that in a housekeeping job, “being discreet is not super important, but if you are caught revealing the client's personal life you would be out of a job for sure!” This is because “housekeeping is all about your reputation. The better reputation you have, the more clients you have. You don’t want to be known for being indiscreet. Housekeepers must be seen and not heard,” the Redditor explained.

We also spoke with another Redditor, Thesugarsky, who shared a story of the last family she worked for. “I overheard dad calling his insurance asking if a certain rehab was covered. He talks LOUD naturally. I heard what he was going for and everything. Nobody knew, not family nor friends. Just me and them. They never knew I knew.”
Thesugarsky said that she likes working as a nanny since “it’s the same but different every day.” In her job, “it’s very important to be discreet,” especially in a small town like where she lives.
Speaking of that incident, the Redditor said that when she overheard the conversation, she realized the reason for his odd behavior the past few months. “Just acting odd when I came back to the house earlier than expected,” she told us and added that “he’s doing great and is still going to the meetings.”
“It is not hard to keep secrets for me. I just think I should give them the discretion that I would want if they knew something like that about me. I still see and talk to them. Great family.”
