The pets of animal charity “Lesė” are searching for new owners worldwide using popular dating application “Tinder”. While searching for one’s other half, lonely people can also find profiles of lonely animals who would gladly accept the opportunity to become pets of these people. The idea to bring together lonely people and homeless pets using dating application came to the mind of Tomas Petryla, communication specialist. With the help of animal charity “Lesė” he decided to bring this idea to life. This initiative seeks not only to find owners for homeless pets using application app but also to attract society’s attention to the problem of homeless animals in Lithuania.
Tomas was telling that while studying sociology and now working in the field of communication it was always interesting for him to observe ongoing societal processes. “I started taking interest in a worldwide popular dating app Tinder as this is a great century’s reflection of how modern technologies are changing people’s communication. This is how the idea come up to me of how to solve the problem of homeless animals by bringing them together with lonely people in an unusual but widely used platform. Of course, we do not suggest choosing pets instead of people by using this app but we think that these connections do not contradict one another” the author of this new idea shared his thoughts.
Vesta Auškalnienė , manager of animal charity “Lesė” comments: “The subject of homeless animals is still delicate in many ways in Lithuania. The organisation is terrified each spring when hundreds of dogs and cats are left, and sometimes this situation lasts until late autumn. This is the time when we get lots of calls with requests for help but the charity cannot do anything as we are crowded with abandoned pets. Sterilization programs throughout Lithuania are implemented for some time now, the goal of such programs is to decrease the number of homeless pets but grand wishes and actions are not fulfilled and done throughout a night. So we patiently hope that a joyful spring will come to us at last. We expect this idea to attract society’s attention to the problem and in this way will contribute to the creation of a more deliberate society”.
You can meet homeless pets not only by using “Tinder” application but also by visiting different subdivisions of animal charity “Lesė” in Vilnius, Kaunas and Jonava.
