In lieu of holiday bonuses, my company gave each of us a rock. And no we aren’t talking diamond. It was some unifying BS about how we are all the rocks for our company. Yep a rock. We all walked around repeating the same like like Charlie Brown in the Halloween special. “I got a rock.”

I was about 14 or 15 years old. A couple of weeks before christmas I was downtown with my father and stepmother. She said she wants to buy me a pullover, so she did and I was happy.

When I was a teenager, my next door neighbour had died of colon cancer a month before Christmas.
