Ever gotten a text or call clearly meant for someone else—only to have it take a weird or funny turn? Share the best (or strangest) ones you've received!

I made invitations for a friend’s event years ago. I made a typo on the RSVP phone number. When I realized (after they were sent out), I called the wrong number to apologize and the lady had been keeping a list of names and who was attending, which she gave me. What a great person!

I got a call from a number I didn't recognise, I didn't answer and a voicemail was left.
It was a guy, voice I didn't recognise telling me to stop messing with someone's man, can't remember the name of the person whose man I was supposed to be messing with anymore but I did find it funny.
I'm a lesbian and was engaged to my long term GF at the time.
Didn't respond to the message just put up with my friends and soon to be wife pointing out random blokes on the street and telling me to keep my hands off them.

I got a text that said "Hey, we're all meeting for dinner at [restaurant] in [city].

I thought, great, someone wants to see me! Then I realized I didn't recognize the number.

Was tempted to turn up anyway.

The only memorable wrong number text I received was a very personal and private picture from a wife to her husband, followed by several more messages in quick succession all varying degrees of panic and embarrassment, apologising and asking me to delete it. (Which I had already done the moment I opened the message and saw the picture).
My only reply to that number was to confirm that I had in fact deleted the picture.

I kept getting calls for a woman I didn't know. It happened periodically for something like five years. Asked them to stop calling me because I did not know this woman and had gotten a new phone number, which apparently belonged to a relative.

Finally, I got the woman to talk. Turns out it was a d**g addicted sister that they were trying to locate, which confirmed my theory. The woman said that they located her and got her treatment and she was ok. I saved her number and will probably give her a call one of these days to check in.

I don’t know about funny, but this is concerning for sure. Some lady in our apartments once messaged my mom. She was talking about other people in our apartments and telling my mom that they were all involved in some sort of scam with some corrupt politicians or something. She said that this one guy (who fired previously of a heart attack) was actually alive and was being hidden underground because he was also involved (🤷🏻‍♀️). She said people were using this one broken window in the clubhouse’s bathroom to spy on women??? I don’t know, she was going on and on about weird things like that. Anyway, then she said it was the wrong number and deleted all her messages.

So many. When I lived in Dallas, Texas my phone number was 1 digit off from Baptist Hospital and 1 digit off from the Dallas Cowboys football team ticket office.

I tend to get multiple missed calls, from the same number in one night. In the morning I call back. Only to get told to never call again. Like, why would I, "bro"?

"You should come home. Grandma doesn't have much more time." ... Ughh, no, that shít again! Yeah, was wrong number for sure, because, my last grandma died just a few months before.

One of the many Chinese takeouts in my town, Takeout A, reprinted its flyer with MY phone number (last two digits switched) and I got DOZENS of calls on my landline which I do not, fortunately, use that much. I complained but they said there was nothing that they could do about it but change it on the next reprint.
Well there was something I could do. Changed my answering message to give the number of a DIFFERENT Chinese place, Takeout B. Customers would place their order with Takeout B, those getting delivery were fine but those who called to collect at Takeout A were told they hadn't placed an order.
Eventually Takeout A and me cut a deal: free menu for 1 every Friday until the calls to my number ceased. It lasted two and a half months, some weeks I couldn't be bothered to go in and collect.
Still get the odd call but I say Takeout A is closed for redecoration - go to Takeout B (which is the place I always go to)

Reading the replies reminded me of another one. I was one digit off from a restaurant and would constantly get hung up on. Finally, I got someone to tell me the name of the restaurant they were calling. Turns out their web site had posted my phone number. That one was quickly corrected and I ended up eating there even though the didn't comp me for letting them know about the problem.
