I can tell time in my sleep, and I haven't used an alarm in the morning since I was in college.
I think its a process of regularly checking the clock in the middle of the night, but being half asleep and not remembering it. Coincidentally, I can't fall asleep and stay asleep if a clock isn't visible from the bed.
