African flamingos
Quiet and gentle and sensible birds
At the waterhole

Dark, calm waterhole
A place birds and animals come to drink
And predators prowl

Has made the flamingos thirsty and tired
The waters mar

Cautious and careful, watching the surface
Shadows softly fade

Its deadly mandibles of death, await
With absolute guile
