First. Where do you live? If in USA, learn very fast to make money. If in Europe or other continent with normal social-system.... Try to catch those dedicated student's apartments, what are between 300-400 euros. If you can't, rent an apartment by your own, if your parents can allow a monthly 500-600 euro for a studio. Try to avoid flatmates, or worse, roommates. It may seem as a fun living together, but believe me,it's not. I experienced this, me being in my graduate-year, and 2 flatmates in their 2nd years, doesn't giving too much f.u.c.k. and silence, when I needed the most. Also. If you have any opportunity, buy your books second-hand.
