Yesterday at school we went into lockdown as there was an active shooter at school. This is the second time there has been a school shooting threat this year and I'm starting to get scared. I had my mom pick me up early and went to work with her as I didn't want to be alone with my thoughts yesterday. And while its not as bad as it was the day before, i still feel very anxious. So, can anyone spare some advice?

My heart is heavy for you because I know these things are becoming commonplace but I just don't think anyone should have to experience anything like that ever. And telling you that being anxious about it is normal probably doesn't help. I'm glad your mom came and got you btw. As for advice, I'd go heavy on hugs when you can, make a super safe peaceful place in your mind to go to and dance to your favorite song till you're sweaty so that old angst leaves your body. Other than that, just know that there's somebody out there (me) sending you good thoughts! 🤗

This is so far removed from my experience that I don't really know what to say! We did one practice lockdown for 'outside threat' I think they called it, but as guns are so hard to get here we never expected to need to do it for real. I think going to work with your mum for the day was a good idea, so you could postpone the negative thoughts I'm sure were coming. The only advice I think I can give is to talk to anyone and everyone about how you feel. I'm sure your peers have similar thoughts about the experience and you can support each other. It is now a couple of days since you posted, so I hope you are doing better today and the anxiety level has dropped more. If you don't feel you can talk to anyone in person, you can always reach out like you did online. Sending my good wishes your way.
