I love science and more specifically, geology. I also like baking. So when I can combine the two I'm really happy. Every recipe I design combines science with something edible so that I can teach people about the world around them.
This particular recipe is called Giant's Causeway Oatcakes. The UK has some amazing geology and perhaps the most famous are the hexagonal-shaped steps located on the shores of Northern Ireland. I chose oatcakes because they are a staple food and sourced from a crop grown in the same region. They could also be easily shaped into hexagons and stacked on a cheeseboard to resemble the Causeway.
I travelled to Belfast last summer and took a couple of days out to go exploring myself. Armed with my camera, microphone and tripod I set about recording a video to not only show how the recipe is made but also to explain the geology of the Giant's Causeway.
I hope that after watching the video you are inspried to go out and explore the geology in your surrounding area. Or why not have a go at making the recipe. Share your tasty treats with friends and family and wow them with your new found knowledge.
