Bored Panda reached out to the creator of the 'Funny YouTube Comments' account to learn more about it. Our first question was about what makes certain YouTube comments stand out as particularly funny or worth sharing. Here's what we learned: “YouTube comments are completely unexpected... anyone can say anything whether it’s from 5 years ago or today.”
The moderator of the Instagram profile also explained to us how the process of curating new posts for publication works: “It depends on what type of content I share... if it’s a video, I find those myself on YouTube through various playlists. If it’s just a comment (such as a regular picture post) I find those either through Reddit or Google Images itself.”
We were also eager to know which post shared by 'Funny YouTube Comments' is the creator's personal favorite. Here's what we found out: “My all-time favorite post is the ‘Joe Biden’ one where he stutters/mixes up his words.”
We also reached out to Sally-Anne Hayward, an award-winning comedian and a co-host of the Spit or Swallow podcast from the UK. We wanted to discuss some topics related to humor and comedian’s work.
First, we learned what drew Hayward to comedy in the first place, and how she got started in this field: “ I was quite naughty at school and realised I got attention by making people laugh. I then did a degree in Drama which included a module in Stand Up Comedy. I loved this. Immediately after I started out on the open mike circuit and worked my way up to being able to do it for a living. What a ride!”
We were also eager to learn more about the comedian’s inspiration for the jokes she uses in her live performances. Sally-Anne shared with us how she comes up with her material: “For the most part something happens in life and I think 'that could be funny' and I work it up from there. I tend to try stuff out at new material gigs, or if I'm really positive it will work I'll arrogantly put it in a set at a professional show and run with it. If it doesn't work then there is a joke coming to make everybody forget what just happened.”
When asked if Hayward ever found inspiration for her comedy routines from comments or online interactions, she responded briefly: “Absolutely! One person's sincerity is another person's eye roll.”
Lastly, we asked the comedian to share her thoughts on why short, witty comments often get the most laughs. We were curious if there was any comedic principle at play. Hayward answered jokingly: “Because people have no attention span any longer. We are all scrolling to the next thing. That's why I'm keeping these answers shor.....”
