Should You Wish Brides and Grooms Differently?
Here’s an interesting fact that you probably never knew! A Victorian-era wedding tradition stated that people should never wish a bride by saying “Congratulations.” This wedding etiquette is based on the premise that only the bridegroom is lucky to have taken a bride. Therefore, you should only say “Best Wishes” to her.
You might have caught a reference to this age-old tradition in the season 4 finale of Mad Men. When Don Draper announces his engagement to Megan, Pete Campbell corrects a co-worker by saying that you shouldn’t congratulate a bride; you should only wish her the best.
Luckily, these old customs have changed over the years, and now you can share short, funny wedding wishes for the happy couple. Laughter is a much more significant part of marriage ceremonies than ever before. People even go to the extent of playing wedding pranks! Imagine having to restrain yourself from sharing funny wedding wishes for your best friend. That doesn’t seem like a wedding you’d want to attend, right?
