Okraska adds that knowing how to laugh at themselves and reinforcing Eastern European stereotypes in the process makes them more relatable. However, she also noted an element of nostalgia.
“Their idea isn't meant to be satirical at all,” Okraska explained. “They want to weave a nostalgic tale of mythical nations that are simultaneously brave and cynical, vulgar and crazy, lazy and hard-working, colorful and gray. They want to unite all Slavs, or wanna-be Slavs, in a shared sigh for the past and joke about the present.”
