Given the chance Bored Panda reached out to the artist behind the "Hec Comics". Reflecting on what sparked his journey, Heccklin shared, "My biggest inspiration was shencomix, I was reading his comics one day and found myself wishing I could do something similar, so I did!"
His creative process is refreshingly spontaneous, often sparked by random ideas that seem to ambush him out of nowhere. As Heccklin describes it, "A lot of the time, ideas just come randomly. Whenever I have a new idea, I try to write it down as fast as possible. Other than that, sometimes just doodling and having fun on a blank canvas is the easiest way to develop ideas."
For Heccklin, humor is more than just a punchline—it’s a remedy for the seriousness of life. He believes in the power of a good laugh to lighten the load, explaining to us that, "Life is serious enough already, I think by adding a bit of humour, we can forget about some of our troubles."
Although his audience is small, it’s made up of loyal fans who appreciate his quirky perspective. The artist says, "I have a very small audience. Sometimes, it feels like two ships passing in the sea. They give me a haha, and lol, and then I never see them again, haha. There are a few people who always consistently check in to see my new things, and their reactions are usually a bit more interactive! They make jokes that build on mine!"
When it comes to his favorite comics, Heccklin doesn’t hesitate to highlight the works that have influenced him the most. "The best comic ever created is BONE by Jeff Smith. It was one of the first comics I read, alongside Asterix and Obelix. It captures the feeling of the fantastical unknown perfectly." This admiration for the fantastical and the unknown clearly shines through in his own creations, making Heccklin’s comics a delightful escape from the everyday.
