Dogspotting is just that -- a Facebook group where people share photos of all the dogs they see. And it's just as pure as it sounds.

The group has 1.8 million members, all following one basic rule: don't post pictures of dogs you know personally, whether it's your own pup or one that you've seen before. Well, that and don't mention any cats. But you've probably realized that on your own.

"Dogspotting is a game, sport, and lifestyle of spotting random dogs you encounter," the admins of the group wrote, encouraging people to post their own or known dogs in Dogspotting Society instead.

If you want to become a good dogspotter, you should also stay away from the so-called low hanging fruit -- dog and dogs in places you would expect to find them, for example, at the groomers and vets, in parks and stores, and so on.

The most common type of posts are photo and video spots, but the admins also allow text spots (description of the who, what, when, and where of the dog you spotted) and art spots (artistic renderings of the "target").

However, if the subject is distressing or emotionally charged, don't post it. You won't find any politics, nail trimming, ear crops, adopt vs shop, or other similar topics on the group, too. "Keep in mind spotters do not have control over the dogs they spot.be respectful!" the admins added.
