If you ever want to be a star, you have to go through people like Kate Wilson, who cast people according to the client’s requirements. Over the years, Kate noticed that more and more of her clients started to look for 'real' people instead of models, which inspired her to found Real London Casting.
“We are very fortunate as we have built up some great relationships with our clients over the years and we are always up for challenges, every casting job is different, but we love working with diversity and a great range of ages in our castings,” shared Kate.
Being in the casting industry will likely benefit you if you are an extrovert, as Kate shared her typical approach to sourcing potential models and people: “Often when I am out and about I will approach people and ask them to join the agency. I love spotting people who are different and for me, it is also about the energy and personality of each individual.”
We were also curious to learn about the process of matching a client's specific requirements to a potential candidate and what criteria Kate considers when making a selection. She shared: “Often we are given a brief and we just follow that brief, either going through our database or leasing with other modeling agencies. Ultimately it is the client that makes the final choice.”
Besides looking right for the role, other aspects like mannerisms and personality traits also matter. We asked Kate to share how they ensure that the selected candidate is not only a good fit in terms of appearance but also aligns with the desired traits for the role.
“Nowadays, most clients ask for a recent selfie and also a self-tape. That way they can see their personality before booking them in on a job,” shared Kate.
Furthermore, we were curious if Kate has ever received a requirement to find a celebrity lookalike. Unhesitatingly, Kate answered: “Yes, this sometimes does come up, and we match them up to people on our books, or again, we put the brief out to other agencies.”
And lastly, Kate added: “Hara and I are very passionate about our work and we are always looking for new clients, new faces, and new collaborations.”
