I spend my workdays on a computer (or I did when I had work, pre-coronavirus), so I like to spend my free time with paint on my hands and plaster under my nails. This series of 3D animals allowed me to do both. I created these weird animals (and dragons) using cardboard headed to the recycle bin, masking tape, plywood, and plaster bandage. I create the armatures from Amy’s and Lean Cuisine boxes and staple them in place on some old plywood. I add glass eyes then coat the entire piece in plaster bandage (the stuff casts are made from) then paint it with acrylic paint. The result is a dynamic and colorful critter that leaps off the wall.

Thar be Dragons. The wings are made from a cool moray vinyl I had left over from a set I designed. Approx. 24" x 24"

Her's a video I did for HGTV's "That's Clever" many years ago. It shows the technique I use.
